Castlereagh SAC and the British Sub-Aqua Club

Castlereagh SAC is a branch of the largest sport diver training organization in the world - British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC).

The BSAC was formed in 1953 and has grown from a handful of people to over 55,000 members with 1250 branch clubs world-wide. Their training programme is second to none, and is aimed at getting you, the trainee, into the water suitably trained in the minimum amount of time.

All BSAC Instructors have to go through a rigorous training programme to reach the required standard, and they are then examined at national level.

Castlereagh Sub Aqua Club

Castlereagh SAC, (CSAC) was formed in 1975 and currently has a membership of approximately 75. These members come from all walks of life, the common denominator being their desire to see the fantastic treasures beneath the waves.

The Club’s instructors are all BSAC Instructors. We have 7 Advanced Instructors, 6 Club Instructors, 4 Assist. Instructors, all trained to BSAC’s exacting standards. All of our instructors are unpaid - they do it for the love of it.

Our Technical Section has pioneered the use of Nitrox and Tri-Mix gas diving in the Province.  Members of CSAC also play a major role in our regional governing body - the N.I. Federation of Sub Aqua Clubs.

Club Facilities

Boats - the Club has two RIBs (Rigid hull Inflatable Boats) capable of taking on the roughest seas and in relative comfort.

Compressors - of all the clubs in N. I., Castlereagh S-A.C. has the largest self-contained Air, Nitrox and Tri-Mix facility.

Club Rooms - Castlereagh S-A.C. Club Rooms are situated above the shop premises at 85a Castlereagh Road, Belfast, on the corner of Moneyrea Street. These rooms provide us with a comfortable environment for our theory lectures, and act as a focal point for club activities. The Club owns the complete building!
